Mikaya Kekoa

Mikaya Kekoa

Sport: softball

Kekoa, a freshman, plays volleyball and she helped Kohala’s girls basketball team reach the HHSAA Division II tournament last month, but her biggest contributions for the Cowgirls have come on the softball field as a pitcher and slugger.

On Saturday, Kekoa pitched a six-inning no-hitter against Ka’u with 12 strikeouts, helping her cause with a home run. It was Kekoa’s second victory of the week having already struck out seven in a complete game against Honokaa.

Mark the date March 26 on your calender. That’s when the Cowgirls host four-time defending Division II champion Kamehameha.

Win or lose, with Kekoa in the fold, the Cowgirls are a good bet to each the BIIF Division II championship series and get back to the state Division II tournament.
